My name's Alex, but I also go by Dex. I'm an 18yo enigma with a lot of thoughts and a creative ferver.
Throughout my years online, I have always had a passion for the the early internet. Not merely as an aesthetic, but as the embodiment of a forgotten internet.
To me, the old internet represented an internet where we didn't sell ourselves as products. Where our creativity and our knowledge was valued. Where we expressed ourselves free of harassment and censorship.
But big tech companies have eschewed that ethos for money. Social media feels more like a tabloid paper now. The space that I found comfort in became home to my adversaries.
As someone who's disabled and queer, this left me heartbroken. My wellbeing was constantly put at threat. All so big tech could profit off right-wing ragebait.
In middle school, I became severely depressed due to the toxicity I faced both online and offline.
As a response, I decided to make this website as my own personal playground where I can talk endlessly about all my thoughts and interests. As well as fully open up about my experiences with queerness, disability, and mental health.
I consider myself a creative. Art has been a lifelong interest of mine. I see it as my life's purpose. A life without art is one not worth living. Every moment, I'm being inspired by or creating art.
Art has helped me through my best and worst times.
I'm a punk and a metalhead. I've been a metalhead since middle school, and a punk since high school. I've went to basement shows as a teen and I want to go to more. I love supporting new and/or local bands whenever possible.
My anxiety limits how often I engage with people, and my subculture, but I still value the time I get out. I enjoy listening to all kinds of music. Metal and punk are obviously my main tastes, but I also enjoy a lot of grunge, electronic,
post-punk, hip-hop,industrial, rock, jazz, new wave, and more! My favorite bands are Eyehategod, Acid Bath, Alice in Chains, Dystopia, HO99O9, Death Grips, Venom, Bathory, Misfits, The Ramones, Motorhead, and Crowbar.
I am also big into zines and the diy ethos. I got into them as a teenager through the punk subculture and have loved them ever since. To me, doing things myself is a great way to learn skills that benefit me outside of traditional
capitalist and state institutions. As an anarchist, freedom from hierarchies, censorship, and capitalism are some of my biggest values. I admire creativity, autonomy, and knowledge. I see education as something we engage in everyday. Not just
in the dismal public school system.
I'm also a big proponent of harm reduction. I have a history of polysubstance drug use. If it weren't for Narcan, I wouldn't be alive. Harm reduction is very important. And more people deserve to engage with substances in safe and informed ways.
The war on drugs has long failed us. It has brutalized countless people while doing nothing to prevent overdose deaths. All drugs should be dicriminalized.
